When you open a business or start any side hustle, you shift your focus to it. Sometimes, you get so wrapped up that you forget to take care of yourself. However, self-care should always be a top priority to ensure you’re functioning at your best.
Find Ways to Save Time and Make Life Easier
Find ways to make managing your freelancing career simpler and less time-consuming. Then, you’ll feel more relaxed and have more time to spend taking care of your health and wellness.
One way to simplify freelancing is to form an LLC. Ultimately, you’ll have less paperwork and fewer administrative duties in general. You’ll also save yourself potential headaches in the future thanks to the personal asset protection that comes with operating an LLC.
Creating an employer identification number (EIN) is another important part of business ownership. This number is similar to a Social Security number for your business. The IRS uses it to track revenue and payroll taxes for your business. When you have an EIN, it’ll make filing your state or federal taxes easier.
Eat Right
You need different nutrients at different levels to optimize your health. For example, vitamin D provides immune support, while iron helps give your body the energy it requires. For many, processed food ingredients reduce energy, cause mood swings, and negatively affect overall health.
By taking the time each day to eat right and get enough vitamins and minerals, you’ll have more energy and be less likely to feel run down.
Exercise Regularly
A regular exercise regimen can impact your health immensely. Exercise not only helps you maintain a healthy weight but also helps regulate your mood. Specifically, when you exercise, your body releases feel-good chemicals known as endorphins, which help reduce pain and stress.
Get Enough Sleep
You might find that you want to work into the wee hours of the morning to accomplish everything you need to finish, but it’s important to realize late-night work is counterproductive. Your body requires sleep to function properly.
A lack of sleep inhibits your brain’s ability to function effectively; moreover, you’re putting yourself at risk for certain health conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension, when you don’t get enough sleep regularly.
Take Time for Yourself Each Day
Try to take at least 20 minutes for yourself each day, whether that means taking a hot shower, reading a book, meditating, breathing deeply, etc. When you spend time alone to regroup, you’ll be able to recharge and hopefully come back to work with a fresh perspective.
Additionally, this “me time” gives you an opportunity to decompress from being around other people, helping you focus on issues that need your attention most.
Depending on how you choose to spend your downtime, you might be stimulating your mind, reducing pain, or even improving your immune function, all of which can directly benefit your health, helping you do better at work.
If you choose to spend a lot of your downtime at home, create a space that promotes relaxation and focus by cleaning, decluttering, and adding some indoor plants.
Make Self-Care Part of Your Startup Plan
Self-care should be part of your routine, especially as you grow your business. Simplifying the management aspect of your business may also help.
